Welcome to Meandering Miles
On April 11, 2024, I set off to explore the U.S. and Canada on my motorcycle. Over 112 days and 18,225 miles, I rode endless plains, twisty mountain passes, dramatic ocean cliffs, high deserts, low deserts, mesas, and canyons. I stood in awe at arches, glaciers, geysers, and coastlines. I experienced every kind of weather, met generous strangers, and pushed myself to ride roads that scared me. What I found was more than a route—it was a way of seeing the world on two wheels.
This site began as the story of that journey, but it’s grown into something more. Meandering Miles is about what happens when you step out of your routine and into the in-between spaces—the places where curiosity leads and connection follows. It’s about exploring not just where the road goes, but how it changes you along the way.
Follow my Road Trips. First, there’s My Grand Detour—112 days and 18,000 miles across the US and Canada. Next up is a trip to the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America rally—Rhythm & Rides Reunion in TN in June. You’ll find maps, ride logs, stories, photos, videos, and the occasional roadside BBQ shack.
Miles Shared, is a collection of video conversations with fellow riders and wanderers.
If you’ve ever dreamed of your own journey—or just love the open road—you’re in the right place. Welcome to the adventure.
In this episode of Miles Shared, long-distance rider Scott Matlock talks about motorcycle touring with his wife, creating an Indiana riding guide, and his favorite national parks—from Glacier to Banff. Packed with insights for anyone curious about 2-up riding, Iron Butt adventures, or life on the road.
